(Boulder-CO) Allen Iverson has been pigeonholed for quite sometime as a “thug” who plays basketball, but this next bit of news may have you thinking differently about him. The Denver Post is reporting that AI has donated $100,000 to support the Newport News, Va., police department's "Gun Buy Back" program.
Iverson, a Newport News, VA native, is doing so because, “I have made this contribution because I want to make a difference and I hope that others join me. I can remember growing up in Newport News and Hampton, and if we can prevent one more child from being killed and another family from crying and mourning the death of another loved one, then it is more than worth it.”
Now that $100,000 may not be a tremendous amount to Mr. Iverson with his career salary numbers and endorsements all being calculated into the equation, but to give that figure some perspective Yakhouba Diawara only makes $687,456 before taxes for his services this entire year!
Way to go, Allen! That is quite the donation for a great cause.

I bet this wont even get a mainstream press story. But if he had a gun, it's front page news. Typical.
