Nene Right Back on Injury List

(Boulder-CO) ESPN is reporting that Denver’s 60 million dollar Brazilian is right back in his familiar spot on the Nuggets injured list with a torn ligament in his left thumb. An expected outage of at least six weeks is the diagnosis.

This injury is just the latest in a long list of setbacks Nene has endured in his short NBA career and I’m sure it will translate into an even longer conditioning recovery time. One might think that with an injured hand he might be able to still lose some weight and continue to work on his stamina, but this is Nene, and we all know that even a healthy Nene can not accomplish such a routine request. So, get your Nene excuses ready now and leave them in the comments section.

I certainly don't have any excuses for Nene's lack of conditioning, but I do have hope that when he comes back from the surgery, he'll be in shape. During the off-season, he has the freedom to sit, eat, and avoid basketball courts as much as he wants. During the season, however, he has to be in denver working with Hess and Grg whether he's injured or not. Hopefully Hess can use his bubblingly motivational attitude to light a fire under Hil-dog's ass.

Also, what do you think about going real small sometimes during Nene's absence, with Melo manning the 4, Kleiza at the 3, and J.R. taking care of the 2? We'd give up torrents of buckets, but hey, what else is new? At least we would have a chance to outscore teams while our two best defensive power forwards recovered. Plus, playing the 4 might get Melo to pay a little more attention to his rebounding responsibilities, which could only help out down the road.
