(Boulder-CO) Tonight the Nuggets will face the Suns in a game televised on national TV due to the fire situation in southern California. Phoenix enters this game with a stout 4-2 record so far this preseason, but tonight is going to be their first test against a Western Conference playoff foe since beating the Jazz about two weeks ago.
So, what do we know about the Suns? Obviously, they have the little go-go Steve Nash, Amare, and the on-again, off-again disgruntle Marion, but this team has also made some moves during the off-season that are of note. First, they landed the ever so fragile, but still very capable, Grant Hill. Another player I like that they have acquired is D.J. Strawberry. I’ve watched a lot D.J.’s game last year with the fighting turtles of Maryland and I can tell you that he is an outstanding player. He has a good shooting stroke, makes smart decisions, and is very athletic despite being a slender 6’5”.
And we can pretty much expect this one to be a barn burner. The Suns led the league last year with an average scoring pitch of 108.4 points a game as a result of Mike D’Antoni’s fastbeaking attack. The Nuggets came in at fifth in overall scoring at 100.3 points per game, however, Phoenix did have a better average margin of victory (5.6 points) in comparison to the Nuggets just barely squeaking by with two tenths separating what they gave up on the other end of the floor.
Other than that, I’m not going to guess as to who is going to play and who isn’t, but the game starts at eight o’clock MST on TNT and it should be a fun one. Also, be sure to check out these great Phoenix Suns sites for more information on tonight’s opponent.
